December is here, official Christmas mode can begin!
Though to confess, I’ve been on Christmas mode ever since me and husband put up the tree over the November long weekend. Anyways.
I’ve always loved the Charlie Brown Christmas cartoon for as long as I can remember. So much, that I even have Charlie Brown Christmas decorations flitted throughout my home. So much, that I have the book. So much, that I have the soundtrack on my iPhone. SO MUCH, that I decided it was time to make cookies of them for Christmas this year.
I recently blogged about my new love, my Kopykake projector, and decided to use it in helping to achieve my goal. I decided to do an assortment of the main dudes: Snoopy, Charlie, Linus, Schroeder, and Lucy (the sole dudette). Oh, and I tossed in the iconic wilted tree, and Snoopy’s doghouse to boot. I’m also an avid fan of Sugarbelle and was extra inspired by her own Charlie Brown cookies. Aren’t they just awesome?!
I printed off the pictures and cut a border around it. These served as my template to hand cut the cookies, as well as the images I would clip in the projector.
Here you can see the progression of Snoopy, he was my first one since he had the simplest lines and fewest colors. At each step, I had the image projected onto the cookie as I piped over top of it.
With the final step I used a stiff consistency of royal icing to do the outline in the image you see above. It turned out alright, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. As such, I ended up doing the outline with my black Americolor food marker and I felt it gave me more of that illustrated look that I wanted, which you’ll see in the images below.

These are SO fabulous, and I think it was a great idea to use the marker, which gave them more of the original “illustrated” look! Love the Peanuts gang, especially Snoopy:) I have a kopykake, but I can’t figure out how to make the image less blurry.

I agree the projector took a bit of getting used to. I found the best way is to get your image as close to the size you want as possible. Then what I find helps is after I put the image into the projector, fiddle with the height of the box to get it as close to the size needed, then fiddle with the length of lens to get it to exactly where I want, and then adjust the height of the box again to fine tune the focus. I find most times when I do this “3 step” process, It gets me to the focus I want at the size I need. Try that and let me know how it goes!
